PD: One dead in shooting near Phoenix convenience store

PHOENIX — Phoenix police say a man is dead after a shooting near a convenience store late Saturday night.

The incident took place around 11:30 p.m. near 24th Street and McDowell Road.

The victim has been identified as 32-year-old Joseph Deleon.

According to police, when Deleon exited his car, the suspect approached him and shot him for unknown reasons.

Police say the suspect then entered Deleon's vehicle and tried to drive away but was unable to do so.

The suspect then took off on foot across McDowell Road and was struck by a vehicle.

After being hit by the car, the suspect continued to flee.

Police say the driver of the vehicle involved in the collision also left the scene.

Deleon was transported to the hospital in extremely critical condition and was later pronounced dead.

On Sunday afternoon police released a composite sketch of the suspect involved in the homicide.
