PD: 18-year-old hit, killed by truck in Phoenix overnight; driver cited for DUI

PHOENIX — A 21-year-old man was cited for DUI and released after hitting and killing an 18-year-old woman in Phoenix overnight.

The incident happened just after 11 p.m. Saturday. near 40th Street and McDowell Road.

Phoenix police say the pedestrian was crossing McDowell Road near 41st Street when she was hit by an eastbound truck. She was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The driver, a 21-year-old man, saw the pedestrian in the roadway before the collision, but was reportedly unable to stop in time.

Police say the driver was cited for DUI and released. Speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

The pedestrian was not in a crosswalk at the time of the crash.

The identities of the victim and driver have not been released.
