A state nominating commission is accepting applicants for two vacancies on the Arizona Court of Appeals.

The vacancies are on the court's Phoenix division and are for seats reserved for residents of Apache, Coconino, La Paz, Mohave, Navajo, Yavapai and Yuma counties.

One vacancy was created by the retirement of Judge Patricia Orozco, a former Yuma County attorney who was appointed to the appellate court in 2004.

Gov. Doug Ducey's appointment of Judge Andrew Gould to the Arizona Supreme Court created the second vacancy. Gould is a former Yuma County Superior Court judge who was appointed to the Court of Appeals in 2011.

The Arizona Commission on Appellate Court Appointments will screen the applicants and nominate at least three for each opening. Ducey then will appoint the replacement judges.
