PHOENIX — Phoenix police say a man fled from a traffic stop Thursday night after hitting an officer with his vehicle.
The incident occurred around 10 p.m. near 41st Street and Osborn Road.
Police say East/West Valley DUI Task Force officers were patrolling in the area when they stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. The driver reportedly gave a false identity to the officer and the officer made an attempt to detain the driver who was still behind the wheel.
At that time, the suspect resisted and stepped on the gas to get away. He reportedly accelerated at a high rate of speed, hitting the officer with the side of his car.
The officer, who is employed with the Surprise Police Department, suffered a non-life-threatening head injury and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Officials say the suspect has not been located and police are working to identify the suspect.
