A Phoenix man accused of first-degree murder in the stabbing death of his friend last month has pleaded not guilty.
Maricopa County prosecutors say 22-year-old Matthew Meiner entered his plea Tuesday.
Meiner was arrested Dec. 23 in connection with the death of 21-year-old Matthew McLean, who police say was stabbed more than 70 times with an edged instrument.
Authorities say Meiner remains jailed on $1 million bond on suspicion of one count each of murder and burglary and two counts of theft.
Police say McLean was found dead inside a home and his car and other property were stolen.
Investigators haven't released a possible motive in the case but a court document stated that Meiner is a suspected drug dealer.
Authorities also say that Meiner and McLean were longtime friends.
