Impairment, speed may be factors in deadly Phoenix crash

PHOENIX — A man died Monday night after his vehicle was hit by a truck, whose driver is suspected of being impaired at the time of the crash and was also speeding, police said.

The crash happened around 9:30 p.m. near 69th Avenue and McDowell Road in Phoenix.

Police said the driver of an F-150 was traveling westbound on McDowell Road and then collided with a minivan that was turning left onto McDowell Road from 69th Avenue.

The driver of the minivan was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The driver of the F-150 was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Citing preliminary information, police said the driver of the F-150 is suspected of being impaired and speeding at the time of the crash.

Editor's note: Phoenix police initially identified the man who died in a news release on Tuesday, but later said that the name they provided was "incorrect" and asked that it be removed. Police have confirmed the person who died was an adult male.
