Looking for a new furry family member?

The number of cats and dogs at Maricopa County Animal Care and Control's two Valley locations is at a critical level, and they're aiming to find forever homes for as many pets as they can.

MCACC spokesman Jose Santiago said on Saturday they'll be hosting an "Empty the Shelter" event, with all of the pets available to be adopted for free. The only charge associated with the event is the $17 licensing fee for dogs above the age of 3 months.

According to the MCACC website, they have 769 dogs available and 88 cats. CHECK FOR AVAILABLE PETS

Santaigo said Bissell and PetSmart Charities have teamed up to help support the event. PetSmart Charities provided a $100,000 grant to help cover Saturday's adoption fees, and Bissell's Pet Foundation is providing leashes for dogs and collars for cats.

Dogs and cats will be available at both MCACC's West and East Valley locations:
