PHOENIX — A man is facing charges after his 4-year-old son was shot Wednesday afternoon at a home near 44th Street and McDowell Road.

According to Phoenix police, 21-year-old Jose Solis was showing a gun to his 15-year-old brother and eventually handed it to him. The 15-year-old was handling it when it went off, striking the boy, according to police.

Police say Solis drove his son to a nearby hospital while he called police on the phone.

The 4-year-old remains in critical condition, according to police.

During an investigation, authorities developed probable cause and booked Solis into jail for reckless endangerment.

Phoenix police says the investigation is ongoing and will release more information as it becomes available.
