A crash late Friday night forced doctors to perform an emergency C-section on a woman who was eight months pregnant. The newborn is in critical condition and the woman is in extremely critical condition as of Saturday morning.

The crash happened near Thomas Road and 49th Avenue around 11 p.m. Friday night.

Police say a person driving a Cadillac westbound on Thomas Road lost control and swerved into the eastbound lanes hitting a Kia. The pregnant woman was a passenger in the Kia, which was hit by an SUV as a result of the first crash.

The 19-year-old driver of the Cadillac is in extremely critical condition. The 25-year-old driver of the Kia is in serious condition.

There was also a 2-year-old child in the Kia that was properly restrained and was transported to the hospital out of precaution but has been released to family members. The driver of the SUV was not injured.

Police don’t believe impairment was a factor in the crash, but are investigating if speed or distraction were factors.
