Authorities from several agencies are searching for a missing Arizona State University professor.

The Coconino County Sheriff's Office says 59-year-old Debra Schwartz was last seen on May 4 at Pine Flat Campground in Oak Creek Canyon.

She did not check out of the campground as expected. Sheriff's deputies said the facility's host called them when Schwartz failed to check out on time.

Deputies arrived and found her vehicle, assembled tent and other camping equipment. Investigators said it appeared Schwartz left her campsite for an unknown destination and did not return.

The sheriff's office, assisted by the Arizona Department of Public Safety's air rescue helicopter out of Kingman, has searched the area looking for Schwartz but found no evidence of her.

Schwartz is described as 5'4" tall and 160 pounds, with green eyes and brown hair. A page on ASU's website lists her as an English professor.

Detectives are conducting a missing person investigation, trying to learn what happened before Schwartz disappeared. Anyone with information about her location or the circumstances around her disappearance is asked to call the Coconino County Sheriff's Office at 1-800-338-7888.
