DPS: 1 dead after commercial truck collides with 2 cars on I-17 near Sunset Point

One person is dead and others are injured after a crash near Sunset Point on Interstate 17.

A Department of Public Safety spokesman says troopers responded to the crash around 9:30 a.m. Friday after it occurred on I-17 northbound near milepost 259 just before Bloody Basin Road.

According to DPS, the crash involved a commercial truck, two passenger vehicles, a pickup truck and a box truck.

Two people are hospitalized and three others were checked at the scene for minor injuries, officials said. Three other people involved in the crash were not hurt.

Hazmat crews are also on scene due to the commercial truck leaking fuel onto roads, DPS said.

Northbound I-17 was shut down for several hours but has since reopened. ADOT says there will still heavy delays through the evening hours on I-17, but the delays have since cleared as well.
