WILLIAMS, AZ - A 4-year-old girl who disappeared from the front of a Coconino County home has been located, authorities confirmed.
Police responded to a home near Williams around 6 p.m. Saturday after Kaylee Cook was reported missing.
According to officials, Cook wandered away from the home in an unknown direction. Family members reported seeing the girl playing outside shortly before she disappeared.
After she was found, Cook says she was playing hide-and-go-seek with her 9-year-old brother, Tanner, and was following him when she claims he heard a bear and she got lost.
“I was thirsty and hungry,” said Cook. “Tanner was scared, always. I didn’t go with him because Tanner thought the sound was a bear.”
Cook says she slept under a tree for the night with no pillow, blanket, food or water.
Search efforts continued overnight and remained ongoing until a sheriff's deputy in the area spotted the 4-year-old walking near the road about 1.5-miles from where she was reported missing, officials said.
“Thank you, everybody, for trying to find me,” Cook said. “I am so happy. I’m having a good day now.”
