KINGMAN, AZ — A police officer in Kingman shot and killed a man who ran from authorities following a traffic stop, the Kingman Police Department said Friday.

Mohave County Sheriff's Office says Kingman police received a call about someone with outstanding warrants for his arrest.

Officers initiated a traffic stop when the passenger, identified as 36-year-old Marcus Adam Fuentes, ran from the vehicle.

Fuentes had valid warrants for his arrest, including one felony probation violation warrant out of Maricopa County, police said.

MCSO officials say Fuentes ran to a courtyard of a senior assisted living facility, and partially stood behind a large pillar. Fuentes allegedly told officers he had a gun and that he was not going back to prison.

Officials say Fuentes then made a "furtive movement" that led one of the officers to shoot him.

Fuentes was taken to a hospital where he died.

MCSO says no weapons were found during a search of the area.

The identity of the officer involved has not been released but officials say he has worked for the Kingman Police Department for eight years and is on standard, administrative leave.

The incident is under investigation by MCSO.
