The Phoenix Fire Department and the Scottsdale Fire Department both responded to a house fire Tuesday afternoon in Phoenix with a unique twist.

The fire was first reported at the home near 56th Street and Indian School Road around 2 p.m.

Phoenix firefighters say one of the Scottsdale crew members responding to the call immediately recognized the address as his father-in-law’s home.

That same firefighter and their unit treated the man in his 70's on scene for minor burn injuries he received while escaping the fire. They then transported him to the hospital in stable condition.

Firefighters say the man is very lucky to have escaped the fire with just minor burns because the fire spread quickly from the attic space and caused significant damage.
