A robbery suspect was stabbed by a victim in Scottsdale on Tuesday.

Police responded to the area of Scottsdale and Indian School roads around 7 a.m. on Tuesday after learning that a man had been stabbed.

During the investigation, it was revealed that 41-year-old Charles Lovin stole items from a victim in a parking garage in the area, police said.

When the man attempted to get his items back, the pair got into a fight and at some point, his belongings were dropped in a median on Scottsdale Road.

While the man was attempting to pick up his items, Lovin "re-engaged" and assaulted the man, authorities said. The victim reportedly stabbed the suspect's shoulder with a knife.

Lovin then allegedly chased the man to Indian School Road where they were contacted by a Scottsdale officer.

Both men were detained and Lovin was taken to the hospital for his injuries, police said.

Police determined that the victim was justified in using the knife for self-defense. Lovin is facing attempted robbery, assault and disorderly conduct charges.
