SCOTTSDALE, AZ — Scottsdale police say impairment may have led to deadly multi-vehicle crash in Scottsdale on Sunday.

The incident happened around 1:54 p.m. on Hayden Road and the Loop 101 underpass.

Police say a vehicle was traveling northbound on Hayden Road when it left the roadway, drove up onto the sidewalk, and collided with a ride-share vehicle that was stopped facing westbound on the freeway off-ramp. This collision pushed the ride-share vehicle into a third vehicle that was also stopped on the westbound off-ramp.

The people of the third vehicle were transported to an area hospital with minor injuries. Authorities say the driver of the ride-share vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The two passengers in the ride-share vehicle weren't injured, police say.

The driver that struck the ride-share vehicle was transported to an area hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said impairment is suspected in the crash.

Hayden Road was closed between L-101 and Legacy Boulevard for several hours while police worked to clear the scene.

The victims are not being identified at this time.
