Police say the incident happened near 64th Street and Camelback Road just after 9:30 p.m. when an officer stopped for a collision involving two cars.

A half hour later a motorcyclist traveling westbound on Camelback struck the driver's side door of the stopped patrol car. Police say the officer's vehicle was stopped in the westbound lanes of Camelback with its patrol lights on.

Officials say the motorcyclist was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died.
