The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office has identified a deputy sergeant and his wife who were struck by a van early Thanksgiving morning outside a Cave Creek bar.

MCSO officials said Deputy Sgt. Nick Shrey and his wife Elizabeth were transported to the hospital after they were hit while crossing the street near Harold's Cave Creek Corral just after 12 a.m. Thursday.

Nick Shrey was in serious condition, and his wife suffered life-threatening injuries, MCSO spokesman Chris Hegstrom said.

A GoFundMe account set up for the Shrey family stated that Elizabeth is undergoing multiple surgeries.

The couple has two children, according to the GoFundMe account.

The driver of the van stayed on scene. Hegstrom told ABC15 that alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash at this time.
