An Arizona man is facing charges of endangering the welfare of a child and assault after police say he assaulted a 7-week-old infant in New Hampshire.

The 20-year-old Tucson man was arrested Thursday in Merrimack. Police say he recklessly handled the child twice, including one instance in which the infant fell onto a piece of furniture and then onto the floor.

The baby has been taken to Elliot Hospital but has since been released and is recovering.

The man is charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, two counts of attempted second-degree assault, two counts of reckless conduct and one count of simple assault.

Authorities say he also assaulted another member of the household.

He is being held on $10,000 bail.
