Reid Park Zoo announces 23-year-old Jaguar has died

Reid Park Zoo has announced Saturday that their 23-year-old jaguar has died.

On July 5, Simone was euthanized due to age-related health issues.

The zoo says they determined euthanization based on kidney disease and pancreas issues that are common in cats her size and age.

Simone was the oldest jaguar at an AZA-accredited zoo, according to Reid Park Zoo.

Reid Park Zoo says "They spent lots of time carefully observing Simone, monitoring her diet, and caring for age-related issues."

Simone lived almost her entire life at the zoo. She arrived at the zoo when she was just about 7 months old.
