TUCSON, AZ — A Tucson artist is sharing her story about her new mural honoring nurses amid their service during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The mural along Broadway and Columbus depicts a nurse and patients, as well as a mother holding a child.

Scripps station KGUN spoke with the painter about what her art means in the midst of this year's pandemic.

"The part that represents motherhood is a mother, holding a child with the world on her back, and then it fades into a nurse giving, like giving a piece of herself to each of her patients," muralist Pen Macias explained.

Macias also runs an Etsy shop to sell her art, and has t-shirt designs available at Pop Cycle on Fourth Avenue.
