Sheriff: APS working to restore power after poles downed in storm near Hyder, Arizona

HYDER, AZ — The Red Cross is providing support for residents in southwestern Arizona after a strong monsoon storm knocked out more than 60 power poles.

Yuma County Sheriff’s officials say the Hyder, Arizona, area was hit by a strong windstorm Monday, causing a large number of power poles to collapse.

The collapse resulted in a power outage to the area.

APS is currently on scene working to restore power, and all power lines are expected to be restored by Wednesday at 6 a.m.

Anyone needing shelter or cooling can go to Dateland Elementary School (1300 S. Avenue 64E in Dateland) where the gym has been opened to those in need. Family pets are also welcome.

Anyone in need of assistance who cannot make it to the elementary school shelter can contact the American Red Cross for support at 1-800-842-7349.
