Spooks without the scare. Seniors across the Valley can hire a Halloween Helper to shop for candy, set up decorations, pass out treats and be another set of "eyes and ears" at their home when trick-or-treaters are out and about.
"It's usually a very fun holiday that people like to participate in, but it gets a little bit scary when you're doing it all by yourself," said Elaine Poker-Yount of Visiting Angels.
According to the senior home care service, a third of seniors who live at home live alone.
"It's really nice to just to have somebody else be there," she said.
Poker-Yount said seniors who are mobility challenged or slow on their feet may otherwise be discouraged from participating in the holiday.
