The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office says deputies arrested over a dozen suspected drug traffickers last week hours after holding a press conference on the topic.
According to the release, deputies out on patrol noticed 13 men in camouflage clothing and backpacks along Interstate 8 and mile marker 85, which is between Dateland and Gila Bend.
The men attempted to evade deputies and Border Patrol agents, but were all eventually captured, said MCSO.
About 940 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated $500,000 and 2,100 rounds of ammunition was seized. Eleven of the adult suspects were booked into Fourth Avenue Jail. Ten of those suspects have Immigration and Customs Enforcement holds.
