Mexican national arrested after assaulting Border Patrol agent near Bisbee

BISBEE, AZ — A Mexican national has been arrested and charged after assaulting a Tucson Sector Border Patrol agent near Bisbee on Wednesday night.

According to Customs and Border Protection officials, agents responded to a call of possible illegal alien activity near a residence south of Bisbee. An agent attempted to arrest the 19-year-old suspect as he ran from the area.

The man resisted arrest and fought with the agent, and struck them in the head with a rock. The suspect fled from the area but was later located with the help of other Border Patrol agents, Air and Marine Operations assets, and night vision technology and taken into custody.

The agent was taken to an area hospital for treatment and released.

The Mexican national is being processed for immigration violations and faces charges of assault on a Federal agent.
