DPS: Two dead after rollover near Gila Bend

Two people have died after a crash on Interstate 8 near Gila Bend on Friday.

The Department of Public Safety said at 4:15 a.m. on February 19, a van was traveling westbound when the driver said he dropped his phone.

According to DPS, the driver lost control of his vehicle while trying to get his phone on the floor.

The vehicle entered the median, rolled over and two people in the rear passenger seats were ejected.

DPS said both passengers ejected were not wearing their seatbelts. They have been identified as 24-year-old Emily Plank of West Salem, Ohio and 24-year-old Nick Jackson of Plainesville, Ohio.

The driver and the passenger in the front seat were wearing seatbelts and were taken to St. Joseph’s for their injuries.
