Deadly crash at 78th Ave and Baseline involving MCSO deputy

GILA RIVER INDIAN RESERVATION, AZ — Authorities are investigating a deadly head-on crash involving a Maricopa County Sheriff's Office vehicle on the Gila River Indian Reservation Monday afternoon.

Gila River police said multiple agencies responded to a serious crash with injuries at 78th Avenue and Baseline Road around 2:30 p.m.

In total, three people were taken to the hospital. Two people from the second car involved were hospitalized, and one of the vehicle's occupants died at the scene. On Thursday, the second passenger died at the hospital from their injuries.

The MCSO deputy was transported with non-life threatening injuries. The condition of the third passenger in the second car hospitalized has not been released, but on Thursday, MCSO officials said the third passenger and deputy are still both recovering from their injuries.
