Pinal County Sheriff's Office says a 2-year-old was killed in a crash Friday night in San Tan Valley.
The rear-end crash occurred on Arizona Farms Road, east of Hunt Highway before 5 p.m. Officials say a Dodge pick-up reportedly hit a small sedan with a mother and two children inside.
The mother and two other kids in the sedan were flown to a trauma center with severe injuries, but a 2-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Dodge, a 31-year-old man, suffered only minor injuries.
PCSO says the roadway reopened around 1 a.m. Saturday after a seven-hour closure.
Neither drivers were found to be impaired at the time of the crash.
The cause of the crash is under investigation, involving reports that a third vehicle was in the area at the time. PCSO says a third vehicle may have kicked up dust, causing visibility issues before the crash.
The third car was located at a home nearby and the people at the home were interviewed. PCSO says they have not yet come to a conclusion about what happened.
