Weekend construction (Sept. 20-23): I-10 closes, lanes narrow and other closures for other freeways

Interstate 10 and other Valley freeways will have closures and lanes restrictions for improvement projects this weekend (Sept. 20-23), according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Plan ahead for potential delays, and use the following alternate routes.

Here's ADOT's Weekend Freeway Travel Advisory:

  • Eastbound Interstate 10 closed between 67th and 43rd avenues in west Phoenix from 10 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Sunday (Sept. 22) for work on the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway interchange. Eastbound I-10 on-ramps at 91st, 83rd, 79th and 75th avenues also closed. Expect heavy traffic and delays. DETOUR: Alternate routes include northbound and eastbound Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway) in the West Valley. Consider exiting eastbound I-10 ahead of the closure and using Van Buren Street or McDowell Road as local detour routes.
  • Westbound Interstate 10 narrowed to three lanes(right two lanes closed) between the I-17 “Stack” interchange and 43rd Avenue in west Phoenix from 10 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Sunday (Sept. 22) for freeway widening work. Northbound I-17 ramp to westbound I-10 at the Stack narrowed to one lane. Westbound I-10 on-ramp at 27th Avenue closed. DETOUR: Expect heavy traffic and possible delays. Allow extra travel time.
  • Northbound Interstate 17 narrowed to one lane overnight near Happy Valley Road in north Phoenix from 10 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday(Sept. 23) and from 10 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday (Sept. 24) for interchange reconstruction project. DETOUR: Expect delays and allow extra travel time. Alternate routes include northbound 19th Avenue to westbound Jomax Road to connect with northbound I-17.
  • Southbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway) narrowed to two lanes overnight between Ray Road and Chandler Boulevard from 9 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m.Monday (Sept. 23) and from 9 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday (Sept. 24) for freeway widening project. Southbound Loop 101 off-ramp at Chandler Boulevard also closed overnight from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 21) for sound wall work. DETOUR: Be prepared to slow down and merge safely in work zones. Consider exiting at Ray Road while Chandler Boulevard exit is closed Friday night.
  • Northbound Interstate 17 off-ramp at Seventh Avenue closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Tuesday (Sept. 24) for Valley Metro/City of Phoenix project. Seventh Avenue also narrowed to one lane in both directions between I-17 and Mohave Street. DETOUR: Alternate routes include Seventh Street and 19th Avenue.
  • 32nd Street closed between the Loop 202 (South Mountain Freeway) and Liberty Lane in the Ahwatukee area from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Sept. 23) for lighting installation at freeway interchange. DETOUR: Alternate routes include Chandler Boulevard, 40th Street and/or 24th Street. Traffic using Loop 202 lanes in the area not affected.
