Report: Phoenix is not GOP's pick for convention

PHOENIX — The Republican party has tentatively settled on having its national convention in Jacksonville in August, the Washington Post is reporting.

Details are not yet nailed down, the paper said, but GOP officials were in town on Monday checking the city out.

One issue: Are there enough hotel rooms here for the event?

Thee Republican National Convention was to be held in Charlotte, North Carolina — scheduled to bring 50,000 visitors and $121 million worth of related spending there.

North Carolina is still limiting the size of crowds that can gather, however, leading the president to say it has to be moved.
