Attorney General Jeff Sessions will soon make an announcement regarding stepped-up efforts on leak investigations, according to an official familiar with the plans.
CNN has learned that the announcement has been in the works for some time and will now most likely happen in the next week.
No more information about Sessions' plan has been made public.
In recent days, President Donald Trump has publicly complained about and left open the possibility of firing Sessions.
A growing chorus of Republicans has backed Sessions, who has begun to move the Justice Department away from Obama-era policies on several fronts, including pushing for tougher sentencing, and most recently moved to pressure so-called sanctuary cities.
