Reports indicate the President Obama will soon publicly endorse Hillary Clinton and will aggressively campaign for the former Secretary of State in the coming months.

According to the New York Times, senior aides to the President indicate that a formal endorsement could come as early this week, especially if Clinton does well in the final round of primaries this Tuesday.

The New York Times also reports the Obama is particularly excited to campaign against presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump. According to top aides, Obama has been “personally offended” by Trump’s presidential campaign.

Trump and Obama have butted heads in the past, after Trump championed a theory that Obama was not legally able to run for president because he had been born in Kenya.

Obama is the first president in decades that is in a position to campaign for a fellow party candidate. A recent Gallup poll puts Obama’s approval rating at 50 percent, much higher than George Bush’s 30 percent approval rating in June 2008. Bill Clinton enjoyed high approval ratings in the summer of 2000, but his administration was still facing criticism following the Monica Lewinski scandal.
