PHOENIX — The Phoenix City manager has announced his retirement after 25 years of working with the city.
Jeff Barton announced his retirement on Friday in a media release.
Barton started his career with the city as an internal auditor in 1999 and has spent the last four years as City Manager.
His retirement is effective starting November 14, 2025.
Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego provided the following statement regarding the announcement:
“Having risen through the ranks from an entry-level position to City Manager, Jeff Barton has served the people of Phoenix for more than 25 years. One of the sharpest financial minds I know, he has helped navigate incredible challenges including the uncertainties of COVID-19 and ensured strong economic footing in a time of great change and opportunity. Jeff has delivered important investments for our city's future, such as the voter-approved General Obligation Bond program that will bolster critical infrastructure, support public safety, and improve residents' quality of life for generations to come. On behalf of the people of Phoenix, and as a friend, I offer my sincere thanks.”
