PHOENIX — One person is being treated at a hospital after wrong-way crash Saturday morning on Interstate 17 near New River.
Just before 4:00 a.m. the Department of Public Safety (DPS) started receiving reports of a driver traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of I-17 at milepost 259, near Bloody Basin Road.
Following the first report witnesses continued to call and update the DPS Dispatch Center regarding the wrong-way driver traveling south.
In the area of milepost 236, Table Mesa Road, the wrong-way vehicle and another vehicle attempting to avoid it, swerved and left the roadway, according to DPS.
At least one person was taken to a hospital for treatment. Their current condition is unknown. DPS said minor injuries were also reported.
The identity of the wrong-way driver hasn't been released.
Troopers are working to determine if impairment was a factor in the crash.
