MESA, AZ — Mesa police say a man is dead after a shooting involving officers on Monday night near Mesa Drive and McKellips Road.
According to Mesa Police Department, officers were first called to the area around 9 p.m. to investigate a man who was reportedly armed and making threats.
While officers were attempting to make contact with the man, one of the police patrol vehicles was hit by a vehicle driving in the area.
Officers were still at the scene of the original call while also tending to the unrelated crash, and the man was then seen over a block wall in a backyard with a firearm. That’s when the shooting involving officers occurred.
Police say the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said they had previous contact with the man for a similar type of call, but the man was not immediately identified.
The investigation is ongoing.
