Groups across the Valley are preparing for a historic teacher walkout set to begin Thursday, by finding ways to help keep children fed.

St. Mary's Food Bank

St. Mary's Food Bank is preparing to increase production for its existing emergency food box program in anticipation of families needing help during the walkout. The food bank already serves about 7,000 students after-school meals every day and will be available for any additional families that need help.

Tempe Elementary School District mobile food bus

The Tempe Elementary School District is offering a mobile food bus for their area starting on April 26. Lunch will be served in select parks and neighborhoods for FREE to all community members aged 18 years and younger.

Locations:

  • Chaparral Village - 400 W. Baseline, Tempe: 10:30 - 11 a.m.
  • Nevitt Park - 9815 S. 44th Way, Phoenix: 11:15 - 11:45 a.m.
  • Hudson Park - 1430 S. Cedar Street, Tempe: 12 - 12:30 p.m.
  • Camino Bus Stop - 2335 W. Camino, Tempe: 12:45 - 1:15 p.m.
  • Tempe Cascade Mobile Home Estates - 2340 E. University Dr, Tempe: 1:30 - 2:00 p.m.

Faith Church of the Valley

Faith Church of the Valley is offering free child care and food for kids in kindergarten through sixth grade between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. For more information, you can visit their Facebook page HERE

 

Church for the Nations

Church for the Nations is opening its doors to students during the Red for Ed walkouts. The church will take in up to 300 students on Thursday and Friday (April 26 - 27) from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Visit their website for more information.

School districts

Some school districts across the state have themselves made plans to offer food to students, regardless of their closures.
