Police say a homeowner disarmed a woman with a shotgun who was trespassing in his Wickenburg home.

Wickenburg Police report that on June 26, a man returned home from work and saw a woman in his home through a bedroom window. The woman, later identified as 40-year-old Sara Micaela Valdez, believed she was in her own house and confronted the man in the yard holding a shotgun. Police say the victim pulled out his own firearm for protection and managed to disarm the suspect.

Valdez retreated into the home as police were called. Police made several attempts to communicate with Valdez, who reportedly made obscene gestures toward the officers, threw items out of the window and fired a shot into the ceiling with another shotgun.

After deploying gas into the home, a Maricopa County Sheriff's Office K-9 Officer was sent in to take Valdez into custody.

Police say Valdez did about $40,000 in damage to the home. Police say she also spit on police and paramedics who were trying to treat her, saying, "There now you got AIDS."

Valdez has been charged with burglary, criminal damage and multiple counts of aggravated assault.
