A woman with a prosthetic leg was kidnapped by her ex-girlfriend and a man who threatened to leave her in the desert, without her leg, police said.

Mesa Police report that on September 17, a woman was kidnapped by her ex-girlfriend, 35-year-old Jamie Lee Maloney, and 45-year-old Wayne Allen Vauthier. Police say the two confronted the victim about a stolen credit card at her home near Broadway and Alma School roads.

Vauthier allegedly forced the victim into a car driven by Maloney who took her to another home near Mesa Drive and Broadway Road. At the home, police say, Vauthier tried to strike the victim's "good foot" with a hammer, while Maloney pulled on the victim’s prosthetic leg.

Police say a witness reported to them that Maloney struck the victim’s foot with a 10-pound metal weight. After allegedly threatening to steal the victim’s leg and leave her in the desert, the victim was released at a light rail station.

Police located and arrested Maloney and Vauthier on September 27 for kidnapping and aggravated assault.
