PHOENIX — A man has been arrested for allegedly setting fire to a Phoenix furniture store earlier this month.

The Phoenix fire department responded to a fire at the Del Sol Furniture store near 32nd Street and Thomas Road. When they arrived, they reportedly found customers evacuating and a haze in the store.

The smoke turned out to be smoldering insulation in the wall of the building according to fire officials.

Police say surveillance video shows Guadalupe Torres Jr., 36, outside the building laying down next to a drain pipe.

A few minutes later there appears to be smoke coming from the wall, police say. An employee allegedly recognized Torres.

He was located and arrested three days later and reportedly admitted to placing a plastic bag inside the pipe and lighting it on fire.

The fire did about $5,000 in damage according to court records.

Torres has been charged with arson and several counts of endangerment.
