MESA, AZ — A former Mesa elementary school teacher has pleaded guilty to a sex-related crime committed in 2018.

Court records show that last week, Michael Patrick Driscoll, 49, pleaded guilty to an attempted sexual assault incident that occurred in 2018.

Court records show that in 2018, Driscoll gave whiskey to a 19-year-old girl after a wake. While she was sleeping, he fondled the girl as she woke up.

At the time, Driscoll was working as a teacher at Irving Elementary School in Mesa. The victim has no association with the school.

By accepting the plea agreement, Driscoll has agreed to register as a sex offender. He was also put on lifetime probation and will spend six months in jail.

The jail time has been deferred pending a review hearing within the next six months, according to the plea agreement.

Driscoll is scheduled to be formally sentenced on March 27.
