PHOENIX — A convenience store employee was run over after confronting a suspected shoplifter in Phoenix earlier this month.

Phoenix police report that on December 8 they responded to a shoplifting call at a Chevron station near 32nd Street and Thomas Road.

Police say a man, later identified as 21-year-old Jack Joseph Ankney, is seen on surveillance video placing several items in his pockets.

He paid for other items before leaving the store.

While at his car Ankney was confronted by the cashier.

Police say he punched the victim, then put his car in reverse. The open car door reportedly struck the victim and dragged him before the car ran over his feet.

Police say Ankney used an EBT card to pay for some of the items. Police used that information to identify Ankney.

He was located and arrested near 107th Avenue and McDowell, six days later.

Police say the victim suffered multiple fractures.

Ankney has been charged with shoplifting and aggravated assault.
