SCOTTSDALE, AZ — An arrest has been made in a fatal crash at Hayden and Chaparral roads in Scottsdale.
Scottsdale police report that Monday they arrested 36-year-old Alexis Edwin Ochoa at his hospital room in Scottsdale.
On April 28 about 2:30 am Ochoa was speeding and driving erratically while going northbound on Hayden Road, according to witnesses. He then reportedly ran the red light at Chaparral Road and struck a vehicle driven by Ryan Ralph Thomas, age 46.
Thomas was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died.
Ochoa was also transported to the hospital in serious condition.
Court records show that Ochoa's preliminary blood test showed a .213 blood-alcohol content.
His vehicle control modules show that he was traveling at 89 mph just five seconds before the crash and still going 61 mph at the time of the collision, according to police.
Ochoa was arrested for second-degree murder with extreme indifference.
