PHOENIX — An alleged airport luggage thief has been caught after taking bags containing items worth $5,000-$8,000.

Phoenix police report that on April 28 they arrested 56-year-old Adam Paul Scanniello at a motel near 44th Street and McDowell Road.

He is accused of stealing three bags from the Terminal 4 luggage carousel at Sky Harbor International Airport on April 11. The bags belonged to three different victims.

Police say Scanniello struck again on April 24, allegedly stealing two more bags from the same carousel. The total value of the items stolen is said to be about $5,000-$8,000.

Surveillance video reportedly shows Scanniello as the same suspect in both thefts. Police also matched his image to Scanniello's prior booking photos.

Upon his arrest, police allegedly found several loaded hypodermic needles in addition to heroin, meth, and marijuana.

Scanniello has been charged with burglary, theft and various drug charges.
