New details have been released and a suspect has been arrested in a road rage shooting in Phoenix.

Police say the suspect was shot twice by the 24-year-old victim who returned fire after being shot at in a store parking lot.

Court records say that on April 13, Police were called to the Walmart near 35th Avenue and Bethany Home Road. This is where they found the victim, who told them that he got in to a traffic altercation with a man on 35th Avenue. He said he pulled into the parking lot to get away from the situation but instead he came face to face with the other driver.

The victim says he heard a gunshot and saw a hole in his windshield, at which time he returned fire.

Police say the other car left the area and returned home, to an apartment near 27th and Northern Avenues. Friends of the suspect, 36-year-old Peter Akoba Ayong, called 911 for medical attention since Ayong had been shot twice.

The suspect was taken to the hospital and was treated for a non-life-threatening injury.

Ayong says he was the one that was trying to get away from the other car, and he fired in self-defense.

Police said evidence at the scene supports the victim's version.

Ayong has been charged with aggravated assault.
