Deputies found an open whiskey bottle and a 4-year-old girl in a minivan involved in an Avondale DUI crash.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office reports that on July 10 a minivan was traveling southbound on Avondale Boulevard near Lower Buckeye Road. The driver, 27-year-old Brittney Justine King, reportedly failed to see a vehicle stopped in front of her and veered to go around the car. The minivan went into the intersection and struck another minivan stopped in the left turn lane.

In the minivan with King was her 4-year-old daughter. She was transported to Phoenix Children's Hospital in serious condition with a depressed skull fracture.

The other driver was treated and released from the hospital, while King broke several ribs.

Deputies report that King's blood-alcohol level was .148. They also say they found a half-filled, open bottle of whiskey in the van. King allegedly told MCSO that she drank "hard cider" and a shot of whiskey while at a bar with her daughter.

Her daughter was not in a car seat at the time of the collision.

King was arrested upon her release from the hospital. She has been charged with endangerment and aggravated assault.
