DPS seizes $2.5 million worth of drugs during Phoenix traffic stop

PHOENIX — A trooper with the Arizona Department of Public Safety found more than $2.5 million in drugs during a traffic stop Thursday evening in Phoenix, DPS said.

The trooper conducted the traffic stop on a vehicle near 20th and Greenway streets.

During a search of the vehicle, the trooper discovered 50,000 fentanyl pills, 30 pounds of cocaine, and 464 pounds of methamphetamine, the largest amount of methamphetamine seized during a single traffic stop in DPS history, DPS said.

The driver, identified as Luis Sonoqui, was arrested and booked into jail on several charges: possession of dangerous drugs, possession of dangerous drugs for sale, possession of narcotic drugs, possession of narcotic drugs for sale, conspiracy and illegally conducting an enterprise.
