Alert workers at a Mesa golf club are credited with helping to catch two would-be thieves attempting to steal thousands of dollars worth of equipment.
Mesa police say that on April 19 around 6 a.m., workers at the Longbow Golf Club near Higley and McDowell roads saw golf equipment, typically kept in a storage locker, hidden in bushes near a fence.
The workers also told police that they saw two men, one on the inside of the fence and one on the other side, near a car.
When the two alleged suspects, Tyson Brent Ellsworth and Steven John Daley, saw the workers, they took off. Ellsworth was found still on the property, hiding under a mesquite tree, while Daley was found and arrested later that afternoon at his home in Chandler.
Police say one of the suspects found a key to the storage locker in a golf cart when they played there a few weeks ago. According to police, the value of the items stolen is about $21,000.
Police say three golf bags were found in Daley's car when they found him at his home.
They are both facing charges of burglary and theft.
