Arizona state health officials reported 12,314 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, marking the highest daily count since the pandemic started.

Monday's reports were low after the weekend, with a total of only 1,567 new coronavirus cases. Tuesday's generally have a larger case count due to lags in reporting.

The previous record, 10,322 last Tuesday, was accompanied by an explanation from health officials that the large number was due to data entry delays caused by the Thanksgiving holiday. No explanation was released by health officials for Tuesday's number.

Twenty-three new deaths were also added on Tuesday.

ADHS also published an update saying they made changes to their data dashboard.

"We’ve added some new data points into a new laboratory section showing information about the total tests conducted, including the total number of newly reported tests, the total number of tests conducted overall, and the number of tests newly reported that day," the blog post states.
