Tempe-based Amkor Technology Inc. has promoted an executive vice president to take over as the semiconductor manufacturing company’s new chief executive.

Amkor said Giel Rutten will take over as president, CEO and director as former head Steve Kelley departs the company after seven years at the helm.

Rutten has been with Amkor since 2014, serving as executive vice president of advanced products.

“Giel has been instrumental in driving the company’s successful growth strategy in advanced products and is the right person to lead Amkor as we enter the next phase,” said James J. Kim, Amkor’s executive chairman of the board of directors, in a statement. “He is a seasoned business leader with a deep understanding of our organization and business, as well as the global semiconductor industry.”
