University of Arizona is swinging for the fences to make a major shift into online learning.

The Tucson-based public university is acquiring the assets of Ashford University from Chandler-based Zovio Inc., which last year moved to the Phoenix area from San Diego.

As part of its efforts to acquire the assets of Ashford University, UArizona is creating a new nonprofit entity called University of Arizona Global Campus, which will be a fully online university to students around the world.
